Teaching

Gillian Smith maintains an active private violin teaching studio at her home studio in Bedford, NS.  Gillian’s students have been top prizewinners in local, regional, and national competitions, including the Canadian Music Competition and the FCMF National Music Festival, as well as the Royal Conservatory of Music’s Gold Medal. 

She focuses on nurturing students’ love of music in addition to pursuing excellence in her teaching.

She is a member of the Nova Scotia Registered Music Teachers Association (NSRMTA) and has over 20 years of teaching experience.  She holds three degrees in violin performance: a Bachelor of Music from the Eastman School of Music, a Master of Music from the San Francisco Conservatory, and a Doctor of Musical Arts from the University of Minnesota.

Gillian is also a member of the string faculty at the Maritime Conservatory of Performing Arts and teaches violin through the Conservatory off-site at her home studio in Bedford.
